Invented by cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston, M.D. to help his chronically overweight patients get their diet straight, the South Beach Diet offers a solution to weight loss for many. 

Dr. Agatston did not intend to develop a weight loss plan. But he saw many of his patients struggle with the standard American Heart Association diet. And the heart and vascular problems related to obesity. He took it upon himself to study diets and insulin resistance. And the rest is history.

On the South Beach Diet, you will enjoy whole grains, certain fruits and vegetables, lean sources of protein and healthy fats such as olive and canola oil.    

Composed of three phases, Phase 1 is a two week plan to kick-start your weight loss. During this period, you will enjoy lean meat, fish, eggs, reduced fat cheese, nonfat yogurt, nuts and vegetables. Don't forget the snacks and desserts!

Phase 2 is where you will reintroduce the right carbs, like whole grains and most fruits. You are allowed some indulgences during this phase. Continue losing weight on this phase until you reach your goal weight.

Once you've reached your goal, Phase 3 begins. This is the maintenance phase where you will continue to make healthier eating choices. It will feel more like a lifestyle and less like a diet.
